Blanca Boixet Calvo

Blanca is an Architect and Urban Planner holding two master’s degrees from the Mundus Urbano Programme, an international master’s in urban development and international Cooperation, and is now on the second year of her PhD, which studies the role of the private sector in housing production. Her work focuses on the socio-economic aspects of urban development with a focus on informality, housing and public space. She has worked in five National Upgrading Support Projects (NUSP) for the National Department of Human Settlements in South Africa, working in cooperation with five different municipalities, and has participated in the policy review of the Rwanda National Urbanisation Policy, the review of the Rwandan Urban Planning Code and the development of the Rwandan Urban Informal Settlements Upgrading Strategy. 


She has conducted research project on property markets dynamics in a township in Cape Town. In 2019 she co-piloted the Green and Innovative Kampala international planning workshop in Uganda under Les Ateliers (a French NGO), the French Agency of Cooperation and the Kampala Capital City Authority in the preparation.  Blanca has taught urban design and urban policy studies course at University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Johannesburg. She is now writing her PhD, a comparative study between Barcelona and Johannesburg that focuses on the role of the private sector in the provision of affordable housing and developing a project on affordable housing in Kenya.
